What makes the program ETALON 100% successful and why other stuttering programs in the...

There is a countless number of stuttering treatment methods in the world today; however, out of such variety, there is not even one method that could guarantee a complete and permanent elimination of stuttering. At the same time, the Speech Education Program ETALON does not just claim, but has been producing the following results for the last 15 years: complete and permanent elimination of stuttering in each and every graduate of the Program!
What is a common tragic flow of all other stuttering programs and what makes the Program ETALON so unique and powerful?
The main issue that causes all other “stuttering cure” methods to fail is the lack of understanding by its providers that all stutterers suffer from underdevelopment of their voluntary control center, which operates human’s behavior. In order for people to perform correctly any conscious action of the body (including speaking!), they must possess two extremely important characteristics – mature consciousness and will power.
Instead of teaching stutterers self-control and taking responsibility for their own actions, it is common that “stuttering specialists” interact with their clients in a sect-like way. A speech therapist, psychologist, healer or another “stuttering specialist” “helps” by convincing their patients in the incorrect assumption that stutterers have an incurable disease, which is not their fault, that stuttering makes a person a unique individual, and that they have to be proud of such “uniqueness”. It is being engraved in stutterers’ psychic that because they cannot control their speech on their own, they need someone to “help” them do this. In addition, “speech specialists” poison stutterers mind with such a misconception that people with normal speech never control consciously or take responsibility for their own speech actions!
A stutterer blindly believes all such untruthful concepts, waits for a speech authority to mentor, advice, correct, fix his/her speech….. and, as the result, becomes totally morally and psychologically dependent on such “specialist-helper”. In other words, stutterers learn delegating responsibility for their own speech to a “helper” and expecting that this “helper” will control their (stutterers’) speech for them.
Providing heightened attention for every mistake is easy for any well-trained “helper”, but such strategy can never improve speech of a suffering from mistakes person, who does not have the necessary knowledge and self-control skills in place. It is simply worthless to chase and correct inadequate individuals that constantly expect that some “helper” will take responsibility for their actions. The bottom line is that stutterer’s voluntary control center becomes substituted by the helper’s voluntary control center.
Because ofsuch dangerous sect-like practice, a big group of easy-to-control and lack-of-willpower stutterers begin to crowd around their “helper” – the service provider of the sect-like program. They become totally dependent on their leader, mentor, God! This useless practice of relying on and expecting cure from an outside “helper” has lead to the worldwide creation of many Stuttering Centers, Associations, and Foundations, which end up reinforcing the continuation of stuttering behaviors in stutterers. Each time graduates of any sect-like stuttering program experience a remission of stuttering, they return to their “helper” (speech therapist, psychologist, psychiatrist, healer, etc.) and say: “My helper did not help! The method did not help!” Such and similar statements indicate that rather thanblaming themselves for their own incorrect speech actions, stutterers completely abrogate responsibility for their speech behavior. Just like young children, they become accustomed to always follow someone holding their hand and it is natural that when they lose their “shepherd” (who functions as their voluntary controlcenter), theyinevitably slip back to theirold bad speech habits. That is why, all programs built on such a sect-like approach towards stuttering are programed to fail and wrongly instill dependence on the false mentor.
The most significant scientific discovery of Roman Snezhko, the author of Speech Education Program ETALON, is that he has explained, underlined, and emphasized the crucial necessity of developing the voluntary control center as well as eliminating a faulty belief in any outside “helper” in each stuttering individual in achievement of a complete and permanent elimination of stuttering. Until a stutterer quits expecting and relying upon an external help, he/she will never mature or become an independent speaker.
All stutterers are people with underdeveloped immature speech. For various reasons, they have stopped acquiring their own speaking skills at young age and learned to expect some “helper” to do this for them. Even though they have grown into adults, however, their speech level has still remained immature and inadequate. Their faulty hope for a “helper-healer” has blocked their natural ability to initiate and will power to change. It has stopped stutterers from even attempting to control or improve their own speaking and discouraged them from following the natural path of speech self-development. Such sect-like approach is extremely harmful for the development of speaking skills in stutterers because it paralyzes formation of their independence and ability to take personal responsibility for THEIR OWN speech, THEIR OWN immature vocabulary, and THEIR OWN speaking mistakes.
Moreover, this paradigm of convincing stutterers that they are incapable of development of their own speech and that they need a “helper” or “healer” to do the job for them is fallacious! It appears as a purposeful profitable deception of stutterers: to hook them up on their permanent dependence on a “helper”, eliminating their will power and controlling functions, and turn them into fearful, passive, and obedient people that would be constantly paying for their “helper’s” service! However, any attempt to produce normal speech without the presence of total control and will power is programmed to fail. It is as if a man with closed eyes would attempt to run up and down the stairs hoping to never stumble or type on a computer keyboard with the confidence in never making a typo because “he is CURED now”! No matter how good a person could be at what he/she is doing, still, in order to guarantee the best performance of any conscious action of the body, he/she must have his/her full attention directed to this action only.
As opposed to all sect-like methods that teach stutterers to delegate their responsibility and control function onto someone else, the method ETALON COMPLETELY ELIMINATES such dangerous concepts from the very beginning of the study course. Program students are ordered to take immediate and total responsibility for their speech actions. Instead of blaming somebody else, students begin to realize that it is only their own lack of speech control that should be blamed for their own speech mistakes. They also understand that sounding out a word correctly does not require a lot of attention or effort from any person and that even young children (that are just learning to speak!) can do that.
Carrying and attentive parents or teachers always scold their children/students for each incorrectly produced sound or word, demonstrate and explain them the correct way of speaking and, then, demand mistake-free speech from young learners. Thus, children from their early age naturally learn to become RESPONSIBIL for their own speech. STUTTERING AS POLITICAL ISSUE

As a speech and language therapist with over 30 years of experience in the field of communication disorders in both Russia and USA, I have always wondered why there is so much written on the subject, and yet so little known about stuttering! Why is it that even though there are so many traditional and non-traditional methods being used today on a worldwide basis to address stuttering, none of them can promise ELIMINATION OF this debilitating condition! Why do 99.9% of all programs available today claim the same: “THERE IS NO CURE FOR STUTTERING”?
After I moved to the USA from Russia in 1998 and first learned about the way speech professionals treated stuttering in this country, my immediate reaction was a big surprise. I remember discovering the difference for myself; and, then telling everybody: “If in Russia we, speech professionals, are trying to find ways to ELIMINATE stuttering, why is it here, in the states, that the focus is not on curing the condition, but simply to teach those affected with the condition HOW TO LIVE with it!” I then began to wonder: Why is this so?
While I was working as a speech and language pathologist for various California school districts and treated many students who stutter, this big “WHY?” question would constantly remain in the back of my mind; until, I finally realized one day that finding the answer to it and the answer to “HOW” to permanently cure stuttering would have to become my life’s mission!
Last year (in 2011), because of budget cuts in California’s economy, the small school district that I had been working for (for the last two years), had to let me go. I was sad to leave the secure job at first, but then, I realized that it was the best thing that could happen to me as a speech professional! That was the time when I decided to begin my intensive and worldwide “stuttering search”! I was determined to find the answer to my big questions!
So, after having searched every program around the world available in the English language and not finding anything useful, I switched to continuing with my investigation in the Russian language… And that is when the miracle happened: I stumbled on the name of a Russian professor Roman Alekseevich Snezhko.
I remember being EXTREMELY skeptical when I first read his bold claim about ELIMINATION of any form of disfluency in 3 days instantly and permanently. “This could not be true! – I thought. – How could something so complicated and so difficult to deal with be eliminated in 3 days?” I was sure that it had to be a big fat scam!!!!
However, keeping an open mind, I continued reading about the method and watching close to 50 “Before and After” YouTube video reports (in Russian) about the stunning results of the miraculous ELIMINATION of stuttering in Russian-speaking individuals. My professional curiosity and common sense would not allow me to simply move on and forget about this amazing SCIENTIFIC discovery!
Finally, I became hooked on the “simplicity” and “logic” of this NEW APPROACH towards stuttering as I learned that it was purely based on the practical laws of nature.
After getting in touch with Roman Snezhko and getting to know him over our countless Skype conversations, I ended up becoming his humble student, and was finally able to answer my 2 big questions.
Yes, finding a real and permanent cure for stuttering is NOT in the best interests of a corporate world of such “authorities” as psychologists, speech professionals, doctors, healers, coaches etc. who benefit financially from the ongoing treatment of this condition! And having an ongoing lifelong patient provides a sense of power and control for the professional that can become intoxicating.
Even though most of them have entered their professional field for the right reason, which is they WANT to HELP PWS GENUINELY; however, in order to challenge the core of the belief “what stuttering is” and realize that something is not right, requires a lot of strengths, experience, and ability to THINK/STEP OUTSIDE OF THE BOX.
Because the causal beliefs and treatment of stuttering have remained relatively constant for hundreds of years, nearly all professionals in this field to this day still believe that stuttering is a disease; and, that there are still some abnormalities within the “physical body” of people who stutter which cause them to stutter. Everything they have done – from their statistical research, brain studies, etc. to their logical conclusions, - has been based on these false premises. They are either not aware of or simply ignore/discredit (for the reasons stated above) the new scientific research done in Russia since 1998.
Since my exposure to the truth about being able to cure stuttering, my next big questions have begun taking a different shape.
I have started to wonder:
(1) WHY is it that there has not been at least ONE OTHER SPEECH PROFESSIONAL in the USA/Europe (except myself) who would KNOW about Roman Snezhko’s discovery – that has been available for 14 years?And,
(2) Why would even Russian speech therapists and psychologists not notice and admit an amazing success of the program? Why does it seem that nobody cares or even wants to study further the hundreds of positive testimonials of former stutters and dozens of YouTube video reports about the 3-day ELIMINATION OF STUTTERING?
The only logical answer to all of these questions is that stuttering is a BIG POLITICAL & ECONOMIC ISSUE within the psychological field and stuttering community of professionals.
For the true answer(s): ALWAYS FOLLOW THE MONEY TRAIL!!! Supporting the belief of IN-CURABILITY of this condition is the main goal for those people and companies who make initial and ongoing profits from the people who stutter. Sadly, each time after stutterers fail to succeed in one stuttering program, they begin looking for another one; each time they try out a new pharmaceutical drug with no results, they search for another “magic pill”, and every next “remedy” they experiment with requires them to continue to keep investing their hard earned monies in the next alternative solution! And so, on and on the process goes continuing to benefit the professionals and companies who thrive on this ongoing business (as there are over 60 million stutterers worldwide, and over 4 million stutterers in the U.S. alone) to the sad detriment of those afflicted with this condition.
It is time for this unproductive and repetitive cycle,

which takes advantage of people, to END!

Does hyper-arousal of the Broca and Wernicke’s speech centers really cause stuttering?

DOES HYPER-AROUSAL OF THE BROCA AND WERNICKE’S SPEECH CENTERS REALLY CAUSE STUTTERING?


All scientific research papers written on stuttering state that stuttering is the result of hyper-arousal of the speech centers in the stutterers’ brain during their speech. However, the data obtained by the Russian prof. Roman Snezhko does not support and proves a total insufficiency of such assumption of the traditional approach.
According to scientific discoveries of a well-known Russian professor Ivan Pavlov, any arousal of a neuron is caused by its action of transferring neuron’s impulse to a body part. SPEECH neurons are in charge for SPEECH ACTIONS only! A human performs a speech action as a result of arousal of his/her speech centers and vice versa - the speech action causes increased arousal of speech centers. The following connection takes place within our body: Speech Center – Speech Action. This link between the Brain Center and the Action, whichthis part of the brain is responsible for performing of, is true for any humans’ action and any part of their brain. This means that when we perform an action, our brain neurons that are in charge for performing of this action, remain active; if we do not perform this action, then these same neurons remain inactive because they simply have been left without power.
Therefore, stuttering presents as stopping and skipping of some speech actions; it is caused by slowing down of the speech actions and moments of decreased activity of the brain neurons, but not by arousal or hyper-arousal of Speech Centers/neurons. If the brain speech neurons were hyper-aroused, then, this would have triggered some hyper activity of speech actions.
Some of you may ask: “Isn’t it what we see in speech actions of stuttering individuals when they tense their muscles? Isn’t it the result of their brain’s hyper-arousal?”
To respond to this question, let’s first answer the other one: “Is the action of muscle tension really the speech one?” NO! Even though the tension may occur in such organs as the tongue and lips, however, it has nothing to do with speech production. Why?
Your tongue and lips are responsible for the performance of not just speech actions, but also for the following nonverbal actions: expressing emotions, mimicking, smiling, chewing, or drinking. People who stutter do not realize the difference between such nonverbal actions and the ones that are performed by the same body organs as tongue and lips to produce sounds. While performing a nonverbal action, stuttering individuals mistakenly expect such action to produce sounds. Stutterers initiate a nonverbal action in order to perform the action that produces speech. As the result, a hyper-arousal occurs in the brain center that is responsible for the performance of nonverbal actions and not in the speech center. Hyper-arousal of this brain center (responsible for nonverbal actions) makes his/her speech centers slow down, stop, and skip necessary speech actions because the speech neurons are being left without power at this moment. This power is being pulled away from the speech neurons to supply the nonverbal action. Because stutterer’s tongue and lips have already been involved into performing of one, NONVERBAL, action, they cannot perform another VERBAL action at the same moment.
Roman Snezhko labels this phenomenon by the word STUPOR. Professor I.P. Pavlov described this as an “inhibition by arousal”, as an inhibition/slow downing of one brain center’s activity by the arousal/activation of the other one. From outside, it looks like suppressing of one action by performing of another one.
Now, based on this law of physiology formulated by Ivan Pavlov, the mechanism of stuttering becomes clear: a stutter uses his tongue and lips to perform nonverbal actions for production of sounds, and no matter how forceful his attempts are, he obviously cannot be successful in doing this. People who stutter slow dawn/inhibit their speech centers (that are responsible for the actions of their tongue and lips) because they do not use them for their designed purpose – they use them for nonverbal actions instead. As the result, their NONVERBAL CENTER (which is responsible for mimicking, for example) becomes hyper-aroused and forces the SPEECH CENTERS to stop functioning. Such stoppage leads to the lack of appropriate sound production: skipping of or stumbling on a sound, at the moment.
How to eliminate these stupors in order to prevent the hyper-arousal of nonverbal and inhibition of speech actions? The answer is very simple: stutterers should stop performing all their nonverbal actions and learn how to correctly perform only speech producing actions instead.

What is Stupor?

Stupor is a sudden stop of a speech action and useless attempts to force out the speech; it is an inappropriate interaction of stutterers with their speech apparatus caused by human’s inability to perform more then one task at one moment consciously. The causes of stupor are not known to stutterers.
ИзображениеUnderstanding the causes and the mechanism of stupor is a very important part of the program as a student is learning how to speak without unplanned stops, repetitions, hesitations or stupors.
Because stupor always develops as the result of an attempt to complete an impossible task, it is always accompanied by unconsciousness and fear (a very strong emotion and motivation). When appearance of both stupor and a certain situation or object repeats several times, the human’s brain unconsciously bonds these two completely unrelated events together and begins to react to them in the same way. For example, an audience (situation) may become as a mandatory attribute of stupor. Each time a public speaker faces a big crowd, he unconsciously reacts with a stupor. Sometimes, a coincidence of stupor with an emotionally charged or stressful external event may occur only ones for the brain to remember that and begin react with stupor to the situation that was unconsciously attached to this stupor. This connection is accidental and unpredictable, which makes it impossible to determine or classify various types of fears and styles of stupor that stutterers may exhibit. However, because they all are based on one unconscious reflex connection, it provides the only logical “remedy” for “curing” of “multifaceted” stuttering/stupor. It is the CONSCIOUS BREAK of such reflex connection, which could only be accomplished by a stuttering person, who should understand the absurdness of the attachment of the stupor to the external factor. The moment this realization comes clear for a stutterer, his fears disappear instantly.
For the sake of simplicity, any fear or any external event (e.g., an object, person, letter, situation, sound, smell, taste, etc.) is called an “X-Factor”, where “X” indicates a countless number of various external attachments to stupor. Depending on what the “X-factor” is, stupor could be different in nature, such as: visual, tactile, auditory, taste, etc. However, any kinds of stupor could be easily overcome by Snezhko’s program. The method destroys the main evil – the reflex – without focusing on details, which disappear automatically by themselves.

THE ONSET OF STUTTERTING


Here are several examples of how the stuttering/stupor develops. Stuttering is not a disease; it’s a habit developed through unconscious hypnosis at the moment of maximum stress and fear. The trance suggestion performed in such situation becomes memorized by a future stutterer instantly and remains in a human’s memory for a long time, sometimes forever.
Example #1
A dog is barking at a young boy. The child is scared; all his muscles, including the ones responsible for speech production, are paralyzed. This is a typical stupor developed as a result of an attempt to do the following two things at the same time: focusing on a subject of his fear (the dog) and trying to call for help or run away. However, a human cannot perform Изображение consciously all of these actions simultaneously. At the same moment, with Изображение the horror face expression (which makes the situation even more pathological), the parent grabs (kinesthetic impact) his child numb of fear, looks straight in his eyes (strong visual impact), and produces a fatal suggestion, such as: “Don’t be quite, say something!!! Whate you trying to say? What? REPEAT IT FASTER!!!” The last phrase may be repeated 10-15 times! The poor child is desperately trying to say something, but instead, he remains quite because he cannot take his eyes of his parent’s terrified face and the scary dog. After a minute of such silence, the parent announces something like this: “Oh God! You have begun to stutter!” From this moment on, this kind of conversation between the child and his parent takes place more and more often and finally turns into a “normal” way of their communication. The child learns a bad habit of becoming numb whenever someone “important” is looking at him. He gradually masters this skill as every repetition of such interaction with other “important” people feeds to this habit. Next, child’s parents begin taking him to various specialists and increasing his belief in incurability of the disease. Also, because majority of humans never challenge such authorities as doctors and blindly believe their diagnoses, the myth of stuttering is considered as a proven fact in the society.
Example #2
A child’s growth and early development occurs in the presence of a stuttering person. ИзображениеAs a result, the child gradually develops a bad habit of repeating speech segments in the way that person does. All children in the world acquire their speaking skills by listening to and copying of speech of people around them: their sounds, tone, rhythm, and speech SEQUENCE. Unconscious learning of incorrect speaking occurs especially quickly, when a child has to communicate with and copy the speech patterns after such authorities as his parents or a friend as he literally mirrors and copies in his brain all the pathological behaviors of the people that he focuses his attention on throughout the day.

Example #3
Stuttering may be developed in school. Most of the time, it occurs during acquisition of reading skills. A young child is expected to be able to read a certain number of words in a minute. Such demand simply ignores the fact that each student’s brain development has individual characteristics. (Also, nobody can produce in one minute more than 60 words that Изображениеconsist of 5-7 sounds ! If you do not believe, try it yourself!). If a child does not meet such equal for all fluent reading requirements, he becomes considered as not normal and may be retained because of that. The following thoughts constantly pop up in the child’s head: “I should say it faster! Like others! I cannot do this… I am not like them…” Placed under this kind of public pressure, such student attempts to speak faster and faster and as a result, he begins to stupor. One day, this kind of speech stoppage occurs during an important event accompanied by a great excitement. At this point, all three main reasons for stupor are present: 1) stress 2) external trigger 3) impossible to complete task. Occurrence of these three factors at the same moment inevitably leads to development of stuttering. Just as a student-freshman of medical school begins to self-study symptoms of diseases and finds them in himself, so does a child who diagnoses himself with a stuttering disease. The result is that development of a regular stupor becomes a bad habit at the certain moment. Even after the stuttering student has grown up, and many tasks that used to be impossible to complete for him in his young childhood have become possible now, however, this child still continues to stupor at the same certain moment without attempts to re-think, re-assess, and change his self-appraisal. Those lucky few who do think about changing of their speech and mental behaviors stop stuttering! The majority of people who stutter, carry their childhood fears and bad habits to their adult lives without any changes.

Example #4
Stuttering may occur at any age as a result of a psycho-trauma.

Изображение After a psycho-trauma, not just a young child, but even an adult from the risk group may suddenly begin to stutterer – he or she may “forget” how to speak correctly and begin to stupor regularly in certain speech situations.
Risk group consists of:
* Gullible people with weak self-consciousness and unstable mind (like, e.g. young children);
* People with undeveloped, underdeveloped, or disordered speech, which is a result of weak conscious memory;
* People with abnormally rapid speech;
* All former stutterers in the stage of remission;Изображение
* People with insufficient vocabulary;
* People with disordered attention.
The mechanism of neurotic type of stuttering is simple and has a hypnotic nature. All magicians and hypnotists are aware of the main rule for attention and memory and use this rule during their shows. The rule states that a human can focus his attention on only one unit of information at one moment. Based on this rule, a magician performs the following trick on stage: selects a gullible person from the audience and makes him instantly loose his ability to speak. ИзображениеThis is how it’s done. The “client” is asked to look straight in the eyes of the showman and say his name at the same time. However, because his attention is locked on the eyes of the hypnotist (visual perception), the person cannot switch his attention to his auditory memory and as a result, becomes dumb instantly. Humans cannot access their auditory perception while their attention is still locked on visual perception. This is the natural way, in which the human brain operates. Inability to speak scares the person, as he does not know what the magician has done to him and how this is even possible. The fear turns on the mechanism of enforcement of this stupor and remembering it by his conscious memory. In other words, the person begins to understand and believe that instant lost of his ability to speak is real; he becomes self-doubtful and afraid of not being able to begin speaking. This mechanism of “visually locked attention” turned on consciously (by a hypnotist on stage) or unconsciously (in the stressful visual situation) only once could be enough for this person to get used to this condition and become a stutterer because of an extremely powerful human’s ability to remember things and life events that cause stress or excitement. The higher level of excitement of the event, the brighter memory of it gets stored in the memory. Also, frequently repeating events become remembered easier and remain in the memory for as long as the lifetime. An event of “visually locked attention” while being emotionally high gets stored in the memory and becomes to appear every time in a similar situation. Any speech situation is the situation, that repeats frequently throughout the day. After the stage show, the hypnotized person remains normal and does not freak out because the hypnotist lets him know that his attention focus is no longer locked. At the same time, when a hypnotizing “visual anchor” is a real object and the process of locked attention becomes uncontrolled, such situation may trigger an instant and stable lost of speech – “visual stupor”. Regular repetition of this situation may lead to the development of neurotic stuttering. Stutterers turn the mechanism of visual stupor on by themselves and instantly lose their ability to speak in various situations, such as: at the store, during presentation, in meetings, talking on the phone, ordering food at a restaurant, initiating conversation with a stranger, etc. It appears strange to even the stutterers themselves. They may be speaking normally till their eyes stumble on the hypnotizing object – the “X-factor”, which makes them suddenly forget what they were going to say and begin unsuccessfully forcing out speech sounds (which only worsens the visual stupor!). Lack of success scares and leaves them feeling helpless. All stutterers will always react to the X-factor with the same visual (tactile or some other) stupor until they realize that they are the ones who have created this visual stupor condition within their own body. It has become a bad habit.

Severe stuttering may develop as a result of participation in traditional speech therapy sessions. The following speech therapist’s suggestions are extremely harmful: “You have a stuttering disease. Speak smoothly, speak at once – without breaks; prolong sounds; hit the rhythm while you speak; speak with chanting; focus on your breathing while speaking; maintain direct eye contact while speaking…” All such and other pathological orders significantly worsen stupor and lead to progression of a speech disorder.Изображение
